March 13 2008

The boat got a haircut today.

ie I trimmed the hull at the bow and stern to the shearline.

The edge was marked using a strip clamped on the boat and then I cut along the edge using a Japanese saw.

Have nearly finished sanding the outside of the hull. No particular hurry as will now have to wait for the weather to get warmer to apply the glass fiber and epoxy coating.

The most difficult part to sand is the tumblehome section in the middle which is 100% handwork.

Not a very pleasant task.

Use my favorite little block plane (belonged to my father-in-law), 2 home-made fairing boards for the first pass and a random orbit sanding machine for the final sanding.
